Community Action Agencies are local nonprofits helping to improve the lives of low-income individuals by creating opportunities for increased self-sufficiency and greater participation in the community.

The Community Action Agencies provide a broad range of programs including but not limited to:

  • Weatherizing homes to reduce a family’s energy costs
  • Providing early childhood programs to prepare children for academic success
  • Building affordable houses so families can have a home of their own
  • Helping to complete and file federal and state tax returns for families without charge
  • Providing volunteer opportunities for senior citizens so they stay active in their communities
  • Helping senior citizens maintain their health through nutrition programs
  • Providing transportation to get families to medical appointments and workers to their jobs
  • Assisting vulnerable households avoid loss of essential services through utility payment assistance
